Post-Construction Cleaning: What It Includes and Why You Need It
You’ve survived the renovation. The contractors are gone. But your home is covered in a fine layer of drywall dust, paint splatters, and construction debris. This is where post-construction cleaning comes in — and it’s not something you want to tackle with a regular vacuum and some paper towels.
Why Post-Construction Cleaning Is Different
Construction dust isn’t like regular household dust. It contains silica, drywall particles, wood shavings, and potentially toxic materials that can damage your HVAC system, scratch surfaces, and cause respiratory issues. Professional post-construction cleaning uses specialized equipment and techniques to safely remove these hazards.
What’s Included
- Removal of all visible construction debris
- HEPA vacuuming of all surfaces (critical for fine dust)
- Wiping down every surface: walls, ceilings, trim, fixtures
- Cleaning inside cabinets, closets, and drawers
- Window cleaning (removing stickers, paint drips, dust)
- Floor cleaning appropriate to surface type
- Vent and air return cleaning
- Light fixture and ceiling fan cleaning
- Bathroom and kitchen deep sanitization
- Final detail pass for touch-ups
The Three-Phase Approach
Phase 1: Rough clean — Remove large debris, sweep/vacuum bulk dust. Usually done while final construction work is still happening.
Phase 2: Detailed clean — Thorough cleaning of all surfaces after construction is complete. This is the main event.
Phase 3: Touch-up clean — Final pass after the home has settled for a day or two. Catches any dust that’s resettled.
Pricing
Post-construction cleaning is priced based on the scope of the renovation and square footage. Light renovations (single room) typically start around $300-500. Whole-home renovations or new builds can range from $500-$1,500+. Contact us for a custom quote based on your specific project.
